It all began with a love story.

Once upon a time, a watchmaker fell in love with a chocolate maker's daughter from Geneva. The couple founded Favarger built on the tenets of their love for Swiss-made artisanal chocolate. Still today, everyone at Favarger is part of our passionate chocolate family, inspired by love and passion for making the best swiss chocolate.

The Roots

The Roots

Jacques Foulquier is born in Geneva. As a young confectioner, he discovers a demanding craft, shaped by endurance, precision and dedication. From an early age, he is convinced that true quality can only emerge where work is guided by time, dignity and passion.

The Beginnings

The Beginnings

With no capital but driven by courage and know-how, Jacques Foulquier begins making chocolate in his own kitchen for direct sale. Without industrial means, yet with strong artisanal mastery, he lays the foundations of a manufacture devoted from the outset to independence and uncompromising quality.

From Foulquier to Favarger

From Foulquier to Favarger

Through the marriage of his daughter to watchmaker Jean-Samuel Favarger, the business passes to the next generation. The union of confectionery and watchmaking brings together precision, patience and technical expertise—values that still shape Favarger's identity today. The Maison becomes a true family craft, sustained by the transmission of knowledge and responsibility across generations.

Water as a Strategic Choice

Water as a Strategic Choice

On Geneva's Île, the family operates a small chocolate factory powered by the Rhône. Hydraulic energy allows chocolate to be conched continuously over long hours—an essential factor in achieving finesse and quality. From this period onward, one principle becomes clear: slow processes and the production of one's own couverture are the keys to excellence.

Versoix

Versoix

With its move to Versoix, Favarger finds the ideal conditions for sustainable growth. The river, available space and proximity to Geneva create a forward-looking site. The family anchors not only its production there, but also its life: Versoix becomes the home of the manufacture.

The Rise of Milk Chocolate

The Rise of Milk Chocolate

Milk chocolate begins to appear in the catalogues of major Swiss brands. Favarger adopts this innovation early and swiftly integrates it into its assortment. The requirement remains unchanged: superior quality, achieved through the production of its own couverture.

The Mill

The Mill

Jacques-Samuel Favarger acquires the mill on Rue des Moulins in Versoix. It becomes the heart of production, ensuring full control over energy and the manufacturing process. True to its philosophy, Favarger retains control of every step—from raw material to finished bar.

"Les Trois Suisses"

"Les Trois Suisses"

Favarger launches its first advertisement for milk chocolate under the name Les Trois Suisses. A photograph presents milk chocolate bars and highlights, for the first time, the promise of Swiss quality: "Swiss Milk Chocolate." Favarger thus positions itself early on as a pioneer of the Swiss chocolate image.

Trials and Unity

Trials and Unity

Following the premature death of Jacques Favarger, the company faces a challenging period. Emma Favarger-Brockhaus assumes responsibility alongside her sons, reorganising the Maison and restoring financial balance. Faith, family solidarity and tireless work enable Favarger to overcome this ordeal.

Growth and Diversity

Growth and Diversity

The catalogue already features nine product categories, totalling nearly 100 items. Les Trois Suisses milk chocolate enjoys great success and is available in many formats—napolitans, bars and croquettes. Milk chocolate with almonds also makes its debut.

Variety and Seasonal Creations

Variety and Seasonal Creations

During the 1920s, Favarger enriches its assortment with carefully crafted seasonal creations for Easter and Christmas, aligned with the rhythm of the year. More than a century ago, the Maison was already associating chocolate with emotion, ritual and pleasure—an approach that endures to this day.

Avelines

Avelines are introduced, embodying a new way of enjoying chocolate: delicate, harmonious and perfectly balanced.

Nougalines

Nougalines

A new icon is born: Nougalines. A subtle alliance of fine chocolate and nougat with an inimitable texture, they charm with their finesse and balance. Their demanding production reflects Favarger's ambition to let innovation arise from craftsmanship and quality.

Fruit Jellies

Fruit Jellies

Favarger applies its artisanal expertise to new textures. Fruit and sugar are worked with the same precision and care as cocoa. The assortment expands without ever losing the clarity of its identity.

A New Generation at the Helm

A New Generation at the Helm

The company's management structure is reorganised. Marc Favarger and his brother Jacques Favarger (sons of Rodolphe Favarger), together with Charles Favarger, son of Jean Favarger, take the lead. Family continuity is ensured as knowledge and responsibility are passed on.

150 Years of Favarger

150 Years of Favarger

On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, Favarger turns its focus inward. Employees are honoured rather than the brand itself—affirming that quality is born first and foremost from respect and recognition for the women and men who bring it to life.

A New Phase of Development

A New Phase of Development

Favarger enters a new phase of growth by expanding its product range while remaining true to its Swiss artisanal heritage. This period marks the creation of tourist-oriented collections and the opening of airport sales points, making Favarger's craftsmanship more accessible to an international audience. Without ever compromising on quality or authenticity, the Maison reaffirms its ambition to share Swiss chocolate excellence with as many people as possible.

Back to the Heart of Geneva

The opening of the Lausanne boutique marks the launch of a new design and experiential concept. At its heart: the Chocolate Workshop, where young and old alike can become Master Chocolatiers for the time of a creation.
