The House of Favarger
Since 1826, the company has been overseen by seven successive generations of the Favarger family. The story has a fairy-tale beginning: a watchmaker, Jean Samuel Favarger, married Suzanne, the daughter of chocolatier Jacques Foulquier. She introduced him to the trade and to a passion for chocolate, and he went on to develop the company alongside his father-in-law.
The watchmaking and chocolate trades share a need for high-precision mechanics combined with a craftsman’s skill.
Both the symbols of Swiss expertise thus came together in one family.

The House of Favarger
According to certain documents, Favarger was the first Swiss chocolate maker to start using machines to produce chocolate. Like the other great pioneers of Swiss chocolate, the family never stopped improving its production processes to ensure the best quality and inventing new recipes.
In 1901, Jacques Favarger launched the «Trois Suisses» milk chocolate, using a newly-mastered technique. At this time the company name was « Fabrique des Chocolats et commerces de Thé ». In 1922 his descendants invented Aveline, and then Nougaline ten years later.
The House of Favarger
The Favarger chocolate factory has always had its highest sales in the canton of Geneva, but in 1907 a new branch was opened in Saint-Étienne (France) and chocolate lovers in far-flung spots were soon generating exports. The sales books bear witness to customers in Ukraine, Scandinavia, Syria, Egypt and Italy.
Switzerland, and particularly French-speaking Switzerland, still represents the cradle of the House of Favarger, but the company’s products can now be found throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
